HELP! I need ARTS & CRAFT ideas!?

Hal Rouse: Bulletin boards or picture / keepsake boards. I will suggest several ideas - some items you may have at home or others that your mom may have to help you get. You need a base that is soft enough to stick pushpins or thumbtacks into. You can use cardboard boxes and cut the sides off, however large or small you choose. Something else that is great to use is the cardboard that fabric is wrapped around (bolt). Any store that sells fabric will give you the bare cardboard because they throw them away once the fabric is gone. The cardboard you choose can then be prepared: My least favorite method is painting. You can lay them on old newspaper and spray paint or brush paint using a sponge brush and just about any type of paint, including poster board paint. You can cover the cardboard with paper - newspaper, wrapping paper, etc. However, if you are going to stick things to them with pins, the paper will eventually have little holes everywhere that show. If you use pape! r, you should attach it with a spray adhesive or cover the entire surface with a thin glue. Be sure to wrap it around all the edges for a nice finished look. My favorite method is to cover the board with fabric. A fabric with a loose, open weave works best. The best is burlap which comes in a variety of colors. But you can use any fabric - solid color, floral, print - whatever. You can even use old clothes that are torn and not worth donating! Just use enough fabric to cover the board and wrap around the edges and glue (hot or cool glue gun works especially well, but with your parent's permission - then be careful!) Make sure the fabric is stretched tightly and secured well in the back. After the boards are painted or covered, you can decorate with just about anything! Leaving plenty of room for pictures or keepsakes to be attached, just glue or staple dried or artificial flowers to the center top or a corner. You can personalize by adding a persons name. Use your imaginati! on and anything you can find! These are very lightweight, so y! ou can attach one or two pulltabs from cola cans to the back (depending on how large your board is) with hot glue. Leave the circular part of the tab free so you can hang the board from this. You can make several - same or different sizes - and cover with same or coordinating fabrics. You can also make one for a family member or friend to commemorate a special occasion. For example - use birthday wrapping paper, then clue pictures from the birthday party all over the board. If you do this, you can add "captions" using a fine point marker to write on the paper. These are really easy and fun to do! Done well, you can create a really special gift for someone!...Show more
