I have some questions about buying a car from a private seller?

Stanton Degregorio: You received some good answers when you posed this same question a couple of weeks ago, bud. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20160...

Jesse Japak: Kind of late for a 26 year old.The important thing is, title with the owners name on the FRONT that matches their drivers license. You need insurance before you drive it after buying it....Show more

Peter Lapoint: 1

Fred Caminita: 1) Make sure the seller has a title, that the name is his name, that the VIN is the same as the VIN on the car, that there is not indication on the title of "salvage" rebuilt" or "lein." Have the seller sign it on the back. You take it to the DMV when you register the car, which gets you a new title in your own name. You pay sales tax at that time, and get tags.2. If you are not a mechanic, you need to have one look over the car before you buy -- since used cars are sold "as-is" and you'll have no right to return the car or get problems fixed after th! e purchase. Make sure you get a good long test drive, looking for signs of problems, strange sounds, driving and performance issues. Do not rely on the word of a seller telling you that his car "has no problems" or "drives great."3. The car must be insured for you to drive it and it's required before you go to the DMV to register your car. Arrange the insurance beforehand. You can call several insurance companies to get rate quotes. Nobody can tell you what it's going to cost because there are many factors that affect cost....Show more

Shan Lanen: well, first you need to look the car over and test drive it. Then if yo are happy with the car, negotiate a price for the car. most important, make sure they have title to car in hand. if they say no or give you any excuses. tell them to get title 1st. DO NOT give them any money until they have the title to car in their hand. and make sure you get a bill of sales stateing that they are selling you that car and for how much. ! then both of you sign and date that letter. then all that need! s to happen next, is you and seller needs to go to DMV or title place, and they sign title over to you. you will just have to pay registration fees and stuff. which is another $150 to $200 or so. then go and get insurance for the car, and you should be ready to drive the car....Show more

Jess Grizzel: Take a friend who is a certified auto mechanic with you, to look over the car.Otherwise, do NOT by from a private seller.

Mercedez Trabue: Buying from a private seller is fine. They must have the title in their name ( check their drivers license). Make sure you are paying a fair price. To do that check Kelly Blue book for car value. ( KBB.com). Take the signed title to the DMV for transfer and registration. Insurance is a must, on a cash sale likability is all that is needed and easy to arrange for. You can add comprehensive after if you choose.
