Garry Ohmen: it should record with your tv off, but make sure that the Tivo Box is plugged into the back.
Margart Stimpert: Okay do you have a DirecTV Tivo or do you have a Tivo connected to a DirecTV Regular Receiver? If it is a DirecTV Tivo or DirecTV DVR then yes it needs to be on, the TV does not EVER need ot be on to be able to record. If you have a Tivo brand that is connected to a DirecTV Regular Receiver then YES the Receiver and the Tivo need to be powered on for it to record and the TV can be off.Now my next question is do you have a Tivo brand DVR, or a DirecTV Tivo Brand, or a DirecTV Brand DVR? I ask this again because if it is a Tivo Brand DVR and you are using it with DirecTV then you are not going ot get the full functionality out of the Tivo. Tivo's Dual Tuner (Newest model) can ONLY record ONE DIGITAL CHANNEL AND ONE ANALOG channel at a time, NOT TWO DIGITAL CHANNELS. How this is important is that ALL DirecTV's Channels are digital, so it may be p! ossible to ONLY record 1 TV Channel at a time. This may or may not be part of why it is not recording properly also. Tivo is basically selling its newest model with cable TV in mind. I hope some of this is clear and helps you out. I am trying to grab at straws with the little info I have form your question to cover all bases of your question. Please feel free to send me an email if you want more info or want ot expand on your question at all....Show more
Maryland Gareau: OK.. I LEFT MY TIVO ON (ITS ALWAYS ON) BUT MY TV OFF.. DOES MY SATELITE RECIEVER HAVE TO BE ON ALSO... IVE ONLY HAD MY TIVO FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS.. I KNOW HOW TO USE IT.. ITS JUST THAT PART THAT CONFUSES ME.
Coleman Senn: Tivo or Comcast Digital Cable DVR
Leif Andreason: Yeah just don;t turn off you're tivotâ¬un off you're TV only
Rick Duchane: YES, your satellite reciever does have to be on.Imagine if you didn't have a Tivo and you didn't have the receiver wasn't on, all you would see ! is black on your TV.Same thing applied to the tivo, the satell! ite receiver must be on for the Tivo to work.
